Southern California Plating's 1935 Ford Phaeton was completed in 1936.
In 1936 Maurice Schwartz, a partner in the firm of Bohman & Schwartz, constructed "The Topper Sport Custom" for Hal Roach on a Buick chassis. Maurice followed a design by Anthony Garrity of Hollywood. According to Dan Post's Original Blue Book of Custom Restyling from 1944, the Topper Car gave youth to the infant custom-sport industry.
Rudy Makela's 1936 Pontiac of Indianapolis, Indiana. Completed in 1936, the car was restyled by Rudy at Indianapolis Power Hammer Works Inc.
Marquis Hachisuka's 1937 Lincoln Zephyr was restyled by Bohman & Schwartz. As early as 1936 Bohman & Schwartz produced fadeaway fenders of the tack-on variety on the car, making it one of the first known fadeaway fendered cars.
Since the introduction of plastic, creative minds have been dreaming about bubble-topped automobiles. This is a rear-engined bubble top car that Greek-American industrial designer Alex Tremulis drew in February of 1936. A decade later Alex was later hired by Preston Tucker to design the 1948 Tucker Sedan, and he told his nephew Steve Tremulis that he actually used this design to inspire the design for the Tucker 48.
