Bill Whetstone of Detroit, Michigan's first custom car was a 1956 Chevrolet convertible. At age 20 he bought a brand new 1960 Ford Starliner in 1959. The car was delivered December 7, 1959, and it didn't take long before the car had been transformed into the Adonis custom car by the legendary Alexander Brothers. Bill showed the car until he sold it in April 1963. By then the car had rolled 53 000 miles, won several prices, and been featured in a lot of magazines. After selling the Adonis Bill worked for Bob Larivee as a custom car judge at Bob's shows. Bill worked with Bob for 5 years, from 1963 to 1968, and the last show he judged was the 1968 Detroit Autorama. After selling the Adonis it took 25 years before Bill started working on cars again.[1] He had about a dozen of Mustangs for a while, but sold all of those and bought customs and street rods.
