Dick "Peep" Jackson of Long Beach, California began hanging around the Barris Kustoms shop at age 14. After a while he became a broom boy in the shop sweeping floors for Sam and George. While working at the shop George Barris gave Dick the nickname "Peep". After a year of hard work , Sam Barris told Dick that he had been working hard, and gave him a set of original metal teardrop skirts, and a set of Cadillac Sombrero hubcaps. Dick fitted the hubaps on the 1938 Chevrolet he owned at the time. Peep advanced from being a broom boy to becoming a painter at Barris Kustoms. After learning the trade from some of the best men in the industry, Dick started his own body shop and custom car studio called Dick's Custom Shop.

Dick Jackson is still an active painter, and operates a paint shop called Dick's Paint & Body Studio in Tehachapi, California.
