1951 Mercury coupe owned by Glendale Esquires member Don Tubbs of Glendale, California. Don bought the Merc late in 1953, while he was drafted in the Navy. The car was in white primer when he bought it. It was mildly restyled, and it had been shaved for the door handles and the hood ornament; "I had it painted a Metallic Maroon in late 1953 early 1954 by Johnny Hagan in Glendale. He was best in town for custom body work and painting" did Don tell Kustomrama in 2015. "The upholstery was white tuck and roll with a white shag carpet. Cool for the time." When Don got out of the Navy in 1955, he rejoined with his club. By that time, the club had become one of the clubs in the SCTA, and they were racing their cars at El Mirage dry lake. No more customs. "I sold it in 1955. I got married and soon my first son came along, so I bought a 1947 Mercury sedan "family" car." In 1956 Don built a 1934 Ford 5-Window coupe to race at El Mirage.[1]
