In 2015 Ed's old dry lakes racer was undergoing a full restoration at The Forge repair and body shop in Loveland, Colorado. Owned by Ross Myers, the plan was to have the car restored to the way Ed Pink had it in 1949 - 1950. This photo shows the car as it sat in December of 2015. Photo courtesy of Rex Rogers - The Forge.

1936 Ford 5-Window coupe owned and raced by famous engine builder Ed Pink of Los Angeles, California. Ed didn't have a car while attending high school, but he was mechanically interested at that point, taking the shop classes that were offered. In 2012 Ed told Hot Rod Magazine that his first racing experience was going to El Mirage as a spectator; “That’s when I got my ’36 Ford coupe. It was a stock, street-driven car that I converted to all Edelbrock speed equipment.[1]

The coupe was chopped 5 inches and turned into a dry lakes racer. Ed joined the Rusetta Timing Association, and became a member of the Coupes club.[1]

When the engine in his coupe gave out, Chet Herbert put his Jimmy in the car, and Ed ran it on nitro. Ed ran at El Mirage in 1951 with the nitro/GMC combination in the '36, setting a record in the B Coupe Class he recalled approximately 137 mph.[1]

In 2015 Ed's old dry lakes racer was undergoing a full restoration at The Forge repair and body shop in Loveland, Colorado. Owned by Ross Myers, the plan was to have the car restored to the way Ed Pink had it in 1949 - 1950; chopped and running a flathead. Ed Pink was rebuilding the motor for the car, just like he did in 1949, being an important resource for the restoration. The plan is to debut the restored version of the car at the 2016 Grand National Roadster Show. Ed wouldn't have the motor completed by January, so it will be shown at the Grand National Roadster Show with a different engine.[2]
