1940 LaSalle restyled by several custom shops in the Oakland/San Francisco area for Fred Pape of San Rafael, California. The car was shaved for all its body chrome. The emblems, handles and molding were shaved. The headlights were frenched, so were the taillights. The stock taillights were used, only that they were turned horizontally. All the body seams were molded-in, giving the car a cleaner appearance. A rear gravel pan was made, giving a bigger space between the bumper and body. Lowering of the LaSalle was accomplished by C'ing the frame 8 inches and then by reworking the leaf springs and mounting king-size lowering block which gave additional 3 inches. The front was lowered by cutting the springs. The interior was done in tuck & roll all the window frames were chromed. After finishing the bodywork, Fred hauled his coupe down to Barris Kustoms in Lynwood for a paint job. Barris applied many layers of Pearlscent Green Mist on the body.[2]
