Kustomrama Styling Studio no. 8 - 1940 Mercury Coupe

Design by Janne Kutja.

1940 Mercury coupe designed by Janne Kutja of Tuusula, Finland. Janne's concept came alive when Janne wondered how a 1940 Mercury custom would look with a roof similar to a 1940 Ford or 1941 Mercury coupe. A drip-rail-free roofline featuring a 4 inch, or more, chop was put down on black paper. The runningboards were molded and rounded at the bottom like on the 1941 - 1948 Ford and Mercs, before Janne installed a pair of teardrop fenderskirts, Appleton spotlights, 1948 - 1952 Cadillac hubcaps and 1942 - 1946 Ford bumpers. The body was then uncluttered and smoothened by removing door handles and emblems and by shortening the trim on the hood. To top it off, four 7.10 Super Cushions were installed. Is this something that could have rolled out of Barris Kustoms prior to the Matranga Merc?

Customs by the Sea is a traditional custom car show in Wildwood, New Jersey. Presented by Kustomrama, the show is open for pre 1952 automobiles, restyled in a pre 1952 style. Click here for more info...
