1953 Chevrolet owned by Sandy Kroll of Lakewood, California. Ed Schelhaas of Schelhaas Custom Shop and Frank Sonzogni did the custom bodywork on the car before George Newton painted it in burgundy metallic Nitro lacquer. The car was also two-toned in ivory white. Dean Jeffries pinstriped the car, and he put the name "The Sandman" on the quarter panels.[1] The hood had been nosed and a slight peak was added. The hood was also extended into the upper grille shell. The floating type grille was created by combining a 1955 Ford grille with 1953 Chevrolet parklight housings, with 1950 Chevrolet parking lights inserted into the center. Both bumpers were cut in two pieces, with a 1949 Chevrolet license plate guard molded into the middle. The headlights were given a 3-inch distinctive shade by using 20-gauge sheet metal molded to the stock rim, then the entire unit was frenched The doors were opened by turning the top fender chrome. Side trim from a 1952 Buick was installed, and the trim teeth were stock. The taillights were extended with sheet metal formed to shape and shaded opening was constructed from round rod. Hand made red Lucite lenses were then fitted into place. Dual spotlights and Oldsmobile Fiesta hubcaps wrapped up the style.[2]
