Veda Orr was the first woman member of the SCTA[2], and the only woman to compete on the lakes. Since 1937 she drove Roadsters, Modifieds and Streamliners on the dry lakes of California. Vera's best time was 132 mph, officially timed on Rosamond Dry Lake, California. Veda started the SCTA News newsletter, and during the war she mailed the newsletters to servicemen overseas, and kept the dry lake flame burning for those so far away. After the war, Veda published the first book on the dry lakes racers, Veda Orr's Lake Pictorial.[3]

Veda is listed as an entrant in the roadster class at the El Mirage August 18, 1946 SCTA time trials event. She ran as a member of the Albatas car club.[4]
