Kustomrama Newsletter No. 24

September 3, 2009

The autumn is here, and it is time to prepare for the winter. Myself I turned the heat on in my house today, and I also received another package from the United States containing another book for myself to read during the cold and dark winter. Today I received the latest book from Ken Gross and Robert Ames called "Hot Rods and Custom Cars". The book is filled with pictures taken by Strother MacMinn in the early years of Hot Rods and Custom Cars. The black and white images depict the golden era of hot rodding during the years after World War II, I looked through it and was very pleased with what I saw. The book is only printed in a limited run of 1000 copies, I got number 182, so I guess you better hurry up if you want a copy for your library. For more information, click here. OK, and now to the book that is continuously growing...... The Kustomrama! Below are the recent featured stories on Kustomrama last week.

Butler Rugard's 1940 Mercury

I guess a lot of you will be located at the Petersen Museum by the end of this month. The 26th of September to be accurate. As you all know there is a big auction going on there that day. At The Icons of Speed & Style auction a lot of cars featured on this page will be offered for sale without a reserve (Click here to see the most interesting cars in the lot). One of the cars featured is a distinctive 1940 Mercury restyled by Harry Westergard for Butler Rugard during the 1940s. Not many Westergard restyled car exists today, so I guess the price on this beauty will reach the sky really fast. If you want the car, go out and buy a lottery ticket, or if you wanna help me buy the car, click here to buy an issue or more of Kustomra'mag! Click here to read more

Ray Farhner's 1932 Ford - The Eclipse

So have you all bought an issue of Kustomra'mag now? In case you haven't I may be lucky enough to earn enough money from the rest of the readers to bid on Ray Fahrner's 1932 Ford Roadster Pickup better known as the Eclipse :) As I guess this will go for a lot less money the the Rugard Merc'. Haha! The Eclipse is also featured in the Icons of Speed & Style lot September 26th. And I really hope someone buys this car and puts it back to its initial version as it was showed at the 1960 Grand National Roadster Show. Click here to read more

Kustom Kills & Hot Rod Thrills

Saturday August 29th the Rumblers Car Club, New York City Chapter, hosted their 9th annual Kustom Kills & Hot Rod Thrills show in Brooklyn. I wasn't able to go.... I actually tried to as I have promised the missis that we should take a trip to New York this autumn. Hey what about going thursday the 27th I asked here, and stay until September 1st? I was probably way to eager when I asked here as she quickly understood that there had to be something traditional rod or kustom related going down in NYC at the same time. She refused, and we ordered tickets for the first weekend of October instead. Sooo, If anyone have any tips about places to visit during our stay, please let me know! Cheaterama Hot Rod & Kustom Miracle

Saturday 29th of September was also the day that the Cheaters Car Club hosted their 10th annual Rod & Kustom show at the Nite Owl Drive In in Milwauke, Wichita. The show was a huge success, being owercrowded with cars and folks. Was it the free beer that dragged them out maybe? Click here to watch photos from the show

Weil am Rhein

As some of you were having fun in the sun in the United States, another bunch of people in Europe had fun their own way in the not as sunny Germany. Heavily inspired by the people having fun in the sun the Road Devils Car Club of Europe hosted their Weil am Rhein Hot Rod & Art Show in the town Weil am Rhein. From looking at the pictures from the event, I guess they had just as much fun as their brothers on the other side of the world. Click here to watch photos from the show

60th Anniversary Bean Bandits Reunion and Car Show

The sun was also shining in San Diego last weekend as the Bean Bandit's celebrated their 60th anniversary at the Point Loma Masonic Center. If you were attending this event, or any of the evnets above, let me know so I can share your pictures on Kustomrama. Click here to watch photos from the show

StripAll

Two weeks ago I put an old and heavily rusted Model A ford wheel in my StripAll bath. After lying there for 2 weeks I drag it up this friday. Below you can see a picture showing the wheel before its bath:

And this is a photo of the same wheel after its bath, all traces of paint and rust is gone:

Can it be done any easier way? Not as far as I know! I know there are other chemicals out there removing both rust and paint.... but not in the same opeartion! Click here for more information about StripAll
