1949 Ford Convertible restyled by Gene Winfield of Winfield's Custom Shop in Modesto for Dick Mesa of Stockton, California. As soon as Dick got hold of his Convertible, he began visualizing and laying new designs for it. He went to Gene's shop presenting his ideas, and Gene was happy to apply them to his 1949 Ford. The original wind-splits were filled and frenched, so were the fender seams. A set of 1955 Mercury taillights were installed and recessed in custom made housings located below the wind-flairs. Both front and rear fenders were flared and peaked on the car. The deck lid was and door were electrically operated, and the hood was filled, louvered, peaked and fit with Lincoln-type airscoops installed atop the 1956 Chrysler New Yorker grille. The front fenders were extended, giving a shaded effect to the frenched headlights. The gravel pan was frenched and fit with a 1955 Ford bumper with 1956 DeSoto bumper guards. The rear bumper was a 1954 Ford rear bumper with dual exhausts routed through 1956 DeSoto bumper guards. The two-tone paint treatment was done in Lime Gold and green. The side trim was a combination of 1955 Ford Customline and 1956 DeSoto trim. The car was lowered 5 inches by installing lowering blocks and C'ing the frame in the rear and by reworking the A-frames up front. 1956 Dodge Lancer hubcaps on wide whitewalls were added.[1]
