1954 Mercury 2-door Hardtop restyled by Competition Body Shop in Hollywood for Jerry Malouf of California. This Merc proved that with only altering taillights, grille and minor components could transpose a 1954 Mercury into a real showpiece. The car was nosed, decked and shaved for door handles, so the doors were electrically operated. The hood scoop was extended and slightly trimmed off with round rods to achieve a smoother edge. The headlights were frenched by welding the stock headlight rim to the fender, and then a small sheet metal shade was constructed over the top with round rods and sheet metal. 1955 Lincoln grille sections, matching the two stock horizontal bumper bars were installed as well. To get the right stance, it was lowered 4" up front and 6" in the rear. The rear quarter panels were reworked in able to fit a set of 1955 Packard Caribbean tailights. The headlight and taillight treatment actually lengthened the car twenty inches! When the bodywork was done, it was painted blue and fit with dual spotlights. The car grazed the cover of Car Craft June 1956 when it was done.[1]
