Junior's House of Color
Junior's House of Color, of South Gate, California was owned and operated by Hersh "Junior" Conway. Junior started his automotive career at Barris Kustoms in the Easter of 1955.
When George Barris moved Barris Kustoms to Hollywood in late 1961, Junior decided to go on his own and open up his own shop. After leaving Barris, Junior partnered up with Jesse Lopez. Jesse found a small building in South Gate, near Eastern Ave. and Garfield. He also hooked up a phone line and came up with the name House of Color. After a few months in business, Jesse told Junior that he was on his own. The name was then changed to Junior's House of Colors.[1]
After his first shop on Eastern, Junior moved to Lakewood blvd in Bellflower close to where Larry Watson was, then he had two shops on Atlantic blvd, and then one on Century in Lynwood.
