Leonard Cohen's 1949 Ford
Leonard Cohen of Newark, New Jersey sent a request to Custom Cars magazine if they could show a picture of his restyled 1949 Ford Tudor. The front end was restyled by molding in a 1951 Ford grille shell with a 1954 Chevrolet grille installed. The headlights were then frenched and peaked. The rear hood corners were rounded and featured a hand made fiberglass scoop on top. All the body seams were filled and the handles were shaved. The Ford trunk handle was molded-in as well. The taillights were kept stock. The exterior is finished of in black with 1956 Plymouth Fury hubcaps. The interior was upholstered in red and white Naugahyde with red rugs and white headliner. The car was powered by a stock production model 1953 Mercury truck engine along with a truck clutch connected to the stock 1949 Ford transmission. By August 1958, Leonard had plans of changing the taillights and get the car striped.
