Kustom Kraft Accessories was run and operated by Bill Layman of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. Bill started producing Appleton dummy spotlights in 1983. He sold 125 sets of the dummy version. He also made 6 with handles that functioned mechanically, but they were not wired to light. After buying Fred Rowe's 1951 Mercury converible, an old Barris Kustom, in 1988, Bill sold his business as he did not have time to devote to making the spotlights while restoring the Merc and running a full time precision machine shop. After some time passed, the person that bought the company decided to have the spotlights made completely in China. He decided they were too costly to produce in America, but due to the poor quality of the China spotlights, he decided to quit the production.[1]
