Sanctioned Car Club
A Sanctioned Car Club is a club officially recognized by a racing or timing organization, such as the Southern California Timing Association (SCTA). In the 1930s and 1940s, as hot rodding grew in popularity, the SCTA began sanctioning clubs to bring order and safety to dry lake racing. To gain sanctioned status, clubs had to follow established rules, enforce safety guidelines, and maintain responsible behavior among members. Being part of a sanctioned car club gave racers access to official events, timing equipment, and the prestige of organized competition. It also helped transform hot rodding from outlaw racing into a legitimate motorsport.
